Patison Leaves Madera with Another Top 5

Patison’s string of strong finishes continued on July 20th in the Lucas Oil Modified Series.

It was Patison’s first trip to the progressive banked 3/8 mile oval but luckily his veteran crew chief Steve Teets had plenty of notes from previous events with other drivers.

“Anytime you can unload at a track with a good base-line setup it boosts your confidence and dramatically reduces the learning curve,” said Patison before qualifying.

Patison backed up those remarks by qualifying 2nd out of the 30 entrants and after a 5 car invert, lined up on the outside of row 2 for the drop of the green flag.  Patison navigated the top groove and worked his way up to 2nd place by lap 5.  Patison ran in second until a caution around lap 20 slowed the field.  During the caution, rookie driver Chase Catania made a move that baffled everyone, while trying to wedge himself into a position that was not his, Catania ran over the rear and side of Patison’s vehicle and caused moderate damage.

“I don’t know what he was doing, I’m not sure he did either, but after that contact our car just didn’t handle the same,” said a frustrated Patison after the event.

Over the remainder of the race Patison lost 3 positions but was able to bring his Lucas Oil/MAVTV Modified home with a top 5.  The finish moving Patison back into the top 10 in the point standings.

The team’s next race will be in the Lucas Oil Modified at Irwindale Speedway on August 17
