Field and Pawlak Breakthrough in Jersey

Matt Field and Justin Pawlak

Wall, New Jersey (June 6, 2018) – After showing potential in the first three rounds of the Formula Drift series, Lucas Oil drivers Matt Field and Justin Pawlak would breakthrough to claim podium finishes at Wall Speedway.

Following a combination of setbacks mixed with flashes of brilliance in the first three events, Field would finally get to display the potential of his ever-improving Falken Tires Corvette. His fifth place qualifying effort was his best of the season and would be a sign of things to come. Round wins over Jeff Jones, Ryan Tuerck, Forrest Wang and Justin Pawlak would lead to a match up with defending Formula Drift series champion James Deane in the final. After a hard-fought battle, Field would come home in second place, his best finish of the season. "What an epic weekend!” said Field. “The car was fast and smooth and it showed in our performance as we were able to take home our first podium in the Falken Tires Corvette. Thank you to everyone who has supported us! Hopefully this is just the beginning."

Roush Performance/Falken Tires Mustang and the Falken Tires CorvetteRoush Performance/Falken Tires Mustang driver Justin Pawlak would again kick the weekend off in the best possible way by claiming the top qualifier position for the second event in a row. This time however, he would capitalize on his qualifying effort and record an exceptional third place finish, also his best result of the season. "This whole weekend was a rollercoaster,” said Pawlak. “ We were able to capture the top qualifying spot again this round but then we broke everything from the bellhousing on back during our bye run. But the guys swapped everything out and back the keep the car running 100%. Big thanks to my crew for putting in the work and all of our sponsors. I couldn't do it without everyone's support!"

Rockstar Energy Drink/Nexen Tire Toyota Corolla HatchbackWhile the Team Falken duo of Field and Pawlak were enjoying their best weekends of the year, Rockstar Energy Drink/Nexen Tire Toyota Corolla Hatchback driver Fredric Aasbo would experience his most difficult event of 2018. After a strong fourth place qualifying effort, Aasbo would face Forrest Wang in a rematch of the Long Beach final. Contact between the two would lead to a controversial penalty for Aasbo and his second-round exit would result in the team’s first non-podium finish of the season. Despite the result, the team remains optimistic. “Overall, we've had a strong year and this is just a little setback,” said team owner Stephan Papadakis. “We're looking ahead and feeling positive."

After four rounds, all three Lucas Oil supported drivers sit in the top-10 in the standings with Aasbo in second, Pawlak in fifth and Field in ninth. The teams will get a short break for a mid-season rebuild before the Formula Drift season resumes on July 20-21 when Evergreen Speedway plays host to round 5, the start of the second half of the season.
