Arana Jr. Sets Track Record to Lead Friday Qualifying in Virginia

Hector Arana Jr 6 8 2018

Dinwiddie, Virginia (June 8, 2018) – Hector Arana Jr. would set a new track record at Virginia Motorsports Park to lead Friday qualifying at the NHRA Virginia Nationals.

Arana Jr. would run a blistering 6.795 second pass at 198.15 mph to claim the provisional top spot with his Lucas Oil Racing TV EBR after the first two rounds of qualifying. As has been the case for much of the season, Jr. also ran the two fastest passes of the day and just missed the 200 mph mark with his session one speed of 199.14 mph, which was also a new track speed record. "That run was about as good as it gets," said Arana Jr. "It went straight down the middle on the first run and we were able to pick it up and get into the seventies on the second pass. We're in good position but we still want to see if we can go even quicker tomorrow."

Teammate Hector Arana Sr. would put down a steady pass of 6.967 seconds at 195.56 mph to slot into the 13th position and place the Lucas Oil EBR solidly in the field. "While we aren't as high up the order as we want to be, the field is very close," said Arana Sr. "If we can make even the slightest of improvements, we can easily get into the top half of the ladder."
