LONG BEACH, California (April 9, 2019) - Lucas Oil drivers Fredric Aasbo, Matt Field and Justin Pawlak would all earn strong finishes to begin their 2019 Formula Drift season with Aasbo leading the way with a Final Four appearance.

The weekend began in spectacular fashion in qualifying with Matt Field wheeling his Falken Tires/Borla Exhaust Corvette to a nearly perfect score of 99 points to earn his first career top qualifier award while Aasbo and Pawlak would earn the 10th and 13th place positions respectively. In eliminations the trio would advance multiple rounds as Field and Pawlak took home finishes in the Great Eight while Aasbo would ultimately reach the Final Four.

While Field would come away with a solid fifh-place result, he was left hungry for more. "It was a super solid weekend and I'm very happy but we're still not quite there since we only got to the great eight," said an ambitious Field. "But the car is doing so well because all of our changes are starting to show. Qualifying first was great but we need to use that momentum. I think this can be the start of something great."

Pawlak would come home in the eighth spot with his Falken Tires/ROUSH Performance Ford Mustang and was satisfied with his day. "We had a good day today. The car was working really well and we battled Odi (Bakchis) in the top eight. We went One-More-Time with him but we were just a little bit off on our lead run," said Pawlak. "We lost to the (event) winner so it's not too bad. Odi is a Falken teammate so as long as Teal and Blue is winning, it's good."

Aasbo would reach he Final Four with his Rockstar Energy Drink/Nexen Tire Toyota Corolla Hatchback and face Forrest Wang in a rematch of the 2018 Long Beach final. While Aasbo was hoping to repeat his result from last year, it was not to be, as a mechanical problem would abruptly end his day with a fourth-place finish. Despite the setback, Aasbo was still upbeat with his result. "The first round is always nerve-racking," said Aasbo. "I came into the weekend not really knowing what was going to happen but then it all comes together, all of our work in the off-season starts to show and here we are starting off the year great. We earned 64 points today and next we head to Orlando, one of my favorite tracks."

The Formula Drift series moves east to Orlando Speed World in Orlando, Florida on April 25-27 for Round 2 of the championship. For event details, ticket purchases, driver profiles and livestream information visit formulad.com.
